Madrid will hold the tournament that will decide the last 6 European individual fencing qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Once the last qualifying competitions that were postponed last season, recently held in Budapest, Kazan and Doha were completed, countries that haven’t qualified fencers have a last opportunity in the zone qualification tournaments. The African zone tournament will be held in Cairo (EGY) on April 23, the European zone in Madrid (ESP) on April 24-25, the Asia-Oceania zone in Tashkent (UZB) on April 25-26, and finally the American zone one in San Jose (CRC) on April 29-30. The winner of each weapon will get a place in the Tokyo Olympic competition. In these qualification tournaments, only one fencer can participate per weapon and country, and only in case that the country doesn’t already have a team or individual qualified for that Olympic event.
The Madrid tournament will take place in the “Marqués de Samaranch” venue, very close to the “NH Ribera del Manzanares” hotel where all participants will be accommodated in single rooms.
